Batch upload of glyphs (IBM Plex)[edit]

Hi!

Do you know a technique where it is possible to upload several thousand files at once? I used UploadWizard, but it takes time, as you can only upload 500 files per upload process.

Thanks! --PantheraLeo1359531 😺 (talk) 07:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Based on a quick search and my (limited) knowledge of mass file movement, your options are an upload bot or a server-side upload.

Charlie Kirk Photo[edit]

Why did you request a deletion request when it is me in the photo I took with Charlie Kirk today? I just cropped myself out so it could be on him. That photo is literally Charlie Kurk and not me. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 22:13, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, how do I not have global contributions when I edit on Wikimedia Commons, Enwiki, Simple Wiki, Spanish Wiki, and so on? Shoot for the Stars (talk) 22:15, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am the wrong person to answer that question, I would recommend the Help Desk.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 22:19, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We need permission from Charlie Kurk, regardless of if you removed yourself. We need proof of him consenting for his image to be released under a compatible licence, preferably in the form of an email sent to VRT.

I am so confused. All the photos that people have taken of others need permission like this too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoot for the Stars (talk • contribs) 22:20, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please remember to sign your comments with 4 tide marks (like on en wiki), and yes, they do.

Photos taken of a person require that persons consent and proof of that consent should be emailed to VRT. I hope that clears things up.

Hi, F10 is not intended to be used for photographs of notable people like Charlie Kirk, and the photograph is in use at English Wikipedia. Additionally, this has EXIF data indicating it was taken from a cellular phone camera and it has not been previously published. In the United States, you don't need permission to take or publish a photograph of a person in a public space. I can add {{Personality rights}} to it though. Abzeronow (talk) 22:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification! (The F10 was added pre-crop.)

Hi Chuck. Could you please expand on why this wasn't PD? I think it would only be copyrighted if the copyright was renewed, and I can't find a renewal--did you? (Let me know if you'd like me to undelete so you can see it again; Túrelio deleted while I was looking at the renewal database.) Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 20:31, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't find a renewal, but I also could barely find anything other than ebay listings for the box sets. I tagged under the assumption that CBS (as a major network) would renew the copyright when needed, and due to aformentioned box sets being published after 1961, copyright gets foggy.

Looks like the digitization of records from the timeframe is unfinished, explaining why it isn't in the database.

Got it, thanks. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 21:11, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No Problem!

RE: Block request for User:Metrolinktrains[edit]

Hello, Chuck! I saw I've been flagged for "Username containing a commercial trademark." I apologize for any missteps as I try to navigate this platform. I've been tasked by my work with updating an outdated logo referenced in an infobox here (among several other places) and am trying to figure out how to take the old icon as uploaded in 2017, located here, and change the "symbol = Metrolink" to be the new icon which I've attempted to upload today, located here.

I apologize for any chaos that I've caused. Are you able to push me in the right direction so I can achieve this icon revision?

Thanks, Brett Metrolinktrains (talk) 20:39, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please read this essay about paid editors and send an email to VRT asking for next steps. Your username is against policy because it is just the name of the company, implying a shared account. Shared accounts are against Commons's username/account policy, as well as almost every other Wikimedia project. Trying to make any changes on the English Wikipedia with your current username will result in a very prompt block and explanation of their paid editor policy. I would recommend talking to your company's legal team about your logo's copyright status before emailing VRT.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 21:08, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I'll make the necessary requests for username change and review the necessary information before contacting VRT. Metrolinktrains (talk) 21:28, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Sagittal-Cross-Section-Nasal-Trumpet-placemnet.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

This photo and all photos from this site have Creative Commons Share-alike, Attribution, Non-Commercial License v4.0. I am not quiet sure how to dispute this or what the procedure is. Could you please post my response or end this deletion? Please check:https://opencriticalcare.org/image-library/ Argosykoji (talk) 16:42, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Commons does not allow any creative commons license with the non-commercial clause. Our licensing policy does not permit non-comercial licenses because the purpose of commons is for anyone to be able to use these images for any purpose, including commercial use. While it is a fantastic image, we can't host it here on commons.

I got the license info from the link you provided, and in the future, It's considered bad practice to post the deletion notice on someone else's talk page. If you need to get their attention, a simple ping should suffice. I completely understand why you posted the notice, as getting your image tagged for speedy deletion is not a good feeling. In the future, to dispute a speedy deletion, Replace the word copyvio in the template on the file with delete (I would not recommend contesting this file, as it will be speedy deleted due to non-compatible license), or use the challenge speedy deletion button located right under the tag.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 16:57, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry I do not know the proper way of disputing this so I posted to your talk page. This is so complicated. I am still not sure exactly how I need to dispute this. Argosykoji (talk) 17:06, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
to appeal the deletion file a request for undeletion at requests for undeletion. (I would advise aganst it, as the license is not compatible with commons).
