What about to rename this to Wikimedia-screenshot, to be able to use it for all WMF project. I can also see, that even now, the text of this template is written to be used for all screenshots of all WMF projects. We can leave redirect from wikipedia-screenshot here.--Juan de Vojníkov (talk) 22:30, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Things to do

[edit]
  1. Merge this template into {{Wikimedia-screenshot}}
  2. Replace template based categorization into subcategories of Category:Wikipedia screenshots with normal categorization

The tracker category for {{Wikimedia-screenshot}} should probably be something like Category:All Wikimedia screenshots. Multichill (talk) 12:49, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And using {{Language/en}} to generate category names doesn't seem like a very good idea... (at least it's not {{Language}}!) Rocket000 (talk) 13:08, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: Using these templates separately (as it stands now) allows for proper licensing and nearly proper automatic categorisation into the correct category by language (such as categorising into Category:English Wikipedia screenshots). __Wikimedia-screenshot__ should be used for projects that are not Wikipedia.
Alternate proposition: If ever this template is merged with __Wikimedia-screenshot__, then code should allow the use of interwiki shorthands to categorise, such as
{{Wikimedia-screenshot|w|en|logo=yes}}
— where template text would be like:
"This is a screenshot of English Wikipedia (corresponds to w|en) and contains logos copyrighted by Wikimedia.
The back-end code would also categorise it to English Wikipedia screenshots and Wikipedia screenshots containing works copyrighted by Wikimedia.

Merge

[edit]

There was (and still is) a proposal to merge this zoo of wikimedia and wikipedia translations. The en versions are now almost identical, only the lists of translations are different. All these translations are outdated, the logos are still trademarks, but since 2014 available under a free license. The merge would offer a nice opportunity to delete all old translations for a fresh start (rather radical, maybe, but outdated legal texts are problematic.) Also see Template talk:Wikimedia-screenshot for the original merge suggestion. –Be..anyone (talk) 09:08, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
