Adding a subcategory

The Category:City of David has a large amount of pictures belong in the Category:Acra fortress. I think I know how to move all those pictures using Cat-a-ot but how do I add a subcategory for Acra fortress at Category:City of David? Raquel Baranow (talk) 19:36, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

@Raquel Baranow: The two cats are separated by Category:City of David Givaty parking lot. After opening the Cat-a-lot interface at Category:City of David, you may click on "City of David Givaty parking lot" (or type "Acra fortress" without quotes into the white box at the top of that interface and tap the "Enter" key), and "Acra fortress" will show up as a lineitem.   — Jeff G. ツ _{please ping or talk to me} 22:05, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

@Raquel Baranow: You're welcome. Before categorizing, make sure you understand COM:OVERCAT. Then, on a new line at the bottom of a new or old subcategory page, type "[[Category:parentcategoryname]]" without quotes. Or, while viewing something that contains the subcategory page, open Cat-a-lot, select the subcategory, type "parentcategoryname" without quotes into the white box at the top of the cat-a-lot interface and tap the "Enter" key, and then click the "+" icon next to parentcategoryname.   — Jeff G. ツ _{please ping or talk to me} 00:39, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Right, thanks for bringing up the subject of over-categorizing (I did read that section while looking for answers to my questions); that’s why I wanted to know about adding a subcategory because if the pic was subcategorized, the parent page didn’t have a link to the subcategory so I left it in the parent too. @Jeff G.: : Hi, I just made my 1000th edit on Wikimedia while categorizing a pile of pics in the Category:City of David; now I’m down to a bunch of archeological photos I’m not sure of what they are. There are about a dozen digs around the City of David. I’m thinking of creating a new category entitled, “Category:Archeological sites in City of David,” as a subcategory of: Category:Archaeological sites in Israel. I suppose then I should include as subcategories all the digs that are already categorized?Raquel Baranow (talk) 17:24, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

Just noticed there is Category:Archaeological sites in East Jerusalem but City of David is erroneously listed as a subcategory in Category:Archaeological sites in West Jerusalem (CoD is in East Jerusalem) and, it doesn’t look like a good idea to dump a bunch of uncategorized pictures in that Parent Category. Cannot save preferences

Hello Cat-a-lot maintainers - It's been brought up on the Cantonese Wikipedia that Cat-a-lot is unable to save preferences there. We've updated to the newest version of the script this month but that didn't help. Can a maintainer of this script go and have a look? Deryck Chan (talk) 10:44, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

notice that this gadget requires 2 other gadgets: MediaWiki:Gadget-SettingsManager.js, and MediaWiki:Gadget-SettingsUI.js. these files on cantinese wikipedia seems to be out of date. i can't guarantee that getting an updated version will fix the problem, but this is the first thing i would try. peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 06:11, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

@Nemoralis: Hi. Can you please create a js page in your userpace with the code, I will just move the page then as I'm unable to copy-paste the code without error. Also please leave templates as it is (those between {{ and }}, parameters in plural template should be translated though) as templates with those translated names do not exist, see MediaWiki:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js/de for example. Searchpage results

This gadget depends on the searchresultImage being a table, but we intend to change that next week to be a div. Because of that, the line:

this.labels = this.labels.add( $( 'table.searchResultImage' ).find( 'tr>td:eq(1)' ) );

should change to:
