Bug 709, since october 2004, a proposal wait since May 03, 2008. No news since. Yug (talk) 18:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Instead of signing here...

You can sign here, but that is not going to change anything. Instead of wasting your time here signing, you could also help testing the renaming function, by requesting sysop access for the test.wikipedia.org where it is possible to rename images. If you are willing to do some extensive testing and know how to proper report a bug (that is, describe how to reproduce unwanted behavior) you could consider poking a bureaucrat over there to give you sysop access. -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:35, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

This kind of advice is welcome to. I just posted a message on this testwiki for this issue.
For the "you are wasting your time" : that make 3-4 years that I read unclear statements meaning "no worry, that will come in the next months". So yes, lets us show that we want it. That may encourage programmers, that may encourage new testers, that may encourage boss to encourage programmers. In sum : that may provide informations to lead users, boss, and programmers to act where they can. Yug (talk) 19:54, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Huh - I was unaware this was in testing on testwiki when I gave up the admin bit there. Perhaps I will ask for it back. However, I have a localhost wiki - how would I enable image moves locally?  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 03:44, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Don't know, but If you have information: please share it here ! This page is also for this : know where is the Image rename function. Yug (talk) 10:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
I think you have to set $wgAllowImageMoving=true; in localsettings.php. /Ö 19:09, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
O.O, and 1. are you programmer/what is your source ? 2. where is "localsettings.php" ? 3. who can change it ? Yug (talk) 19:55, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
I know some programming, but I am not really a programmer. One source is mw:Manual:$wgAllowImageMoving. Anyone running his own MediaWiki wiki can make the change (but specifically Mike.lifeguard, since he asked). /Ö 22:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, one will need shell access on the box running the wiki to make such configuration changes. Localsettings is a configuration file on the server which sets certain things about the wiki. Image moving is disabled by default, but can be enabled experimentally by changing that configuration. Since mine is a localhost wiki, I can configure it however I like. I will certainly enable this feature and do some testing in the near future.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 05:35, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
You can enable it on commons ? [my English is not perfect, I'm not sure to understand what you said] Yug (talk) 01:00, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
According to http://mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki , we [if wikimedia always use the lastest stable version of mediawiki] use the version 1.13.1 , release on 2008-09-06 .
According to mw:Manual:$wgAllowImageMoving, the ImageMoving function is available since the 1.13.0 release (2008-08-14 release), but is by default inactive.
According to Ö, is it just need to turn the setting to $wgAllowImageMoving=true in localsettings.php.
So... It's here, but need to be activated. By who ? Yug (talk) 01:12, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Developers I believe. --Kanonkas(talk) 10:19, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
We get closer !!!
According to your Developers link : « if [we] want something done, go to the #wikimedia-tech channel on irc.freenode.net. ». Can some request them to turn on the function such as $wgAllowImageMoving=true ? [I don't use irc].
Some help please ! Yug (talk) 13:28, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

It isn't ready for production use; it requires more testing. Until that is done, asking them to turn it on is pointless. Please help by testing the feature so we can make sure it's ready to roll out. Then we can make a request.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 17:01, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

On bugzilla bug709, and on http://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Main_Page I stated clearly 3 days ago that I am, and there are volunteers interested to test the function. Nobody answered yet. So where can I/we test this function ? Yug (talk) 18:08, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
VasilievVV just restart the ImageMove tests on test.wikipedia.org. I requested him to grant me sysop rights, since he is bureaucrate too. I will see how quickly he react (test.wikipedia.org's users are not often there). Yug (talk) 18:19, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
If we believe This, we simply need to create an account on test.wikipedia.org and then to wait 7 days to be able to use the function ImageMove. So create an account now.
I don't know exactly which tests they want we do... but I hope get the answer within a week. Yug (talk) 23:49, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Request on bugzilla

I have opened bug 15842 in order to track the remaining bugs to be fixed before activating this feature. You can vote for it to be alerted when it has been activated. le Korrigan bla 11:28, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
