Hello, these two files show the purple/green stripe above the black chevron, which appear to be an error. In both the website given as a source and other depictions of such flags, the stripe does not cover the chevron. May I fix that? Hello, I would like to upload a new version of the above to remove Mongolia. Russian is hardly spoken or used in Mongolia today, and the country recently made English the first foreign language in education. --Chinneeb (talk) 14:28, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm inclined to decline this request since File:Ruština ve světě.svg shows at least 30% of Mongolians speak Russian, and English Wikipedia says Russian was the most widely taught foreign language in 2005, and was compulsory in Year 7 in 2006. So sources seem to point to a significant minority of Russian speakers. Abzeronow (talk) 18:40, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to dispute that - if you look at the source for the map you linked (Ethnologue), it doesn't say anything about 30% of Mongolians speaking Russian. Ethnologue's page on Mongolia lists 8 living languages, none of them Russian.

The The Routledge Handbook of Sociolinguistics Around the World (2024) has a section on Mongolia, and states: "In particular, English has become the most popular foreign language in Mongolia" (page 197, DOI: 10.4324/9781003198345-18).

For some stats, while Russian and English are both offered as part of university entrance exams, in 2021, only 866 students took the Russian exam (https://ikon.mn/n/2b27) while 22,376 students took the English exam (https://ikon.mn/n/2b19), a difference in factor of 25.

A Russian study entitled "Russian Language in Everyday Discourse of Mongols (Data from an Expert Survey)", 2022 (https://www.nauka-dialog.ru/jour/article/view/3964?locale=en_US) also confirms the above, with a 2016 statement quoted from Secretary General of the Mongolian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature Sosorbaram Erdenemaa saying: "Сегодня русский язык … уже почти забыли»" (Today the Russian language... has almost been forgotten) Chinneeb (talk) 03:35, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

The new one of course is a little bit more complete (maybe it was cropped from the original) and photographed along with its original illustrated book’s page.

What is the problem with uploading as separate file and if it is really a duplicate merging the versions later? We had so many bad experiences with users who stated that this is really only a higher resolution version and then uploaded a file that looked totally different.
