This is a place where users can communicate with administrators, or administrators with one another. You can report vandalism, problematic users, or anything else that needs an administrator's intervention. Do not report child pornography or other potentially illegal content here; e-mail legal-reports@wikimedia.org instead. If reporting threatened harm to self or others also email emergency@wikimedia.org.

Report users for clear cases of vandalism. Block requests for any other reason should be reported to the blocks and protections noticeboard.


Report disputes with users that require administrator assistance. Further steps are listed at resolve disputes.


Reports that do not suit the vandalism noticeboard may be reported here. Requests for page protection/unprotection could also be requested here.


Other reports that require administrator assistance which do not fit in any of the previous three noticeboards may be reported here. Requests for history merging or splitting should be filed at COM:HMS.

Sahaib, battleground mentality, and edit warring

I believe we discussed a zillion of times that categories "Foo country in april 2023" "Foo country photographs taken on 2048-13-64" should not be further split in subcategories. User Sahaib apparently was unaware of this, and started mass-moving, which I found because they moved my file File:Perth Municipal Buildings seen from Tay Street.jpg, I reverted them and tried to explain, first in edit summaries, and then at their talk page, see User talk:Sahaib#May 2024, that no consensus that it is ok to split the categories, exists, and it is up to them to either find one of many discussions or ask a question at the Village Pump. They were not interested in listening and continued edit-warring. (Note that I uploaded about 30 files taken in Scotland on that day, and several hundreds taken in Scotland that week, but they have only been edit-warring moving one of them). @Ymblanter: I have been a very active contributor to Wikicommons for almost 4 years with almost 200,000 edits and so would not like to be blocked. Actially German photographs per day are often recategorized per Bundesland. I have not practiced it myself, but I will not protest, when I see categories "Saxony photographs taken on ..." Taivo (talk) 09:42, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See also Commons:Village pump#Category diffusion, again. I uploaded plenty of German photographs myself, and, indeed, I have seen them recategorized two times by two different users. I went to their talk pages, and one was receptive and another one was not, but indeed the argument both times was that they have seen existing categories per Bundesland and wanted to diffuse more categories in this way. Since there are people willing to diffuse categories and nobody wants to categorized the photos back to country categories, we naturally get more and more category diffusion even though there is no consensus to do this. It's useless to sanction Sahaib while we continue to tolerate that people like J.-H. Janßen every single day create something like "Category:Neukloster photographs taken on 2023-06-28". Definitely we need a centralized discussion on this and/or a Request for comment. Only with a clear consensus we can delete all the mess and prohibit to create it in future. Yes, this makes sense (though reverting my edits - in the file I uploaded - four times was clearly over the top). I will prepare such an RfC, just discussion on village pumps tend to attract only a handful of people, which then is a weak representation of consensus. @Ymblanter: {{Taken on}} documentation says that location should contain the country. So I would affirm this in an rfc that the lowest category allowed is "<country> photographs taken on "single day". So splitting that further up by parts of country or smaller unit than day is not allowed. When (if) we get consensus for this, it should be easy with some bots to move the files up the tree. Protect → Semi-protect request for Unofficial flag of Nakhchivan (1991-1993).svg

I would like to request that the protection on File:Unofficial flag of Nakhchivan (1991-1993).svg be changed to semi-protection. Issues with the page were all related to Jurisdrew sockpuppets, which should (I think?) no longer warrant full protection status for the page.
